  • Mysterious Bats – 2nd Grade – Students will learn about the bats we have in the Tahoe region through hands‐on activities. The lives and habits of bats will be explored, showing students that these strange and mysterious creatures are just misunderstood, and many common myths about bats are dispelled. Students will be able to see real bat specimens up close and learn about their ecological importance.
  • How are Bats like People? – 3rd Grade – Do bats seem at all similar to humans? Using this question as a starting point, students will learn how scientists use different characteristics of species to classify them and organize them into taxonomic groups. Sometimes, species that seem distantly related can be closer than you think. Students will learn to take their heart rate and compare it to the heart rate of a bat, and learn about many interesting bat adaptations.
  • What's a Beak For? – 5th Grade – This lesson is designed to teach students that adaptations surround us in all different shapes and sizes. Students will use tools and other materials to perform experiments that teach them how birds use different beaks for different food sources. This program introduces students to the steps of the scientific method.
