Dear Families,

The school’s Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) committee meets every month to discuss the Arts implementation plan for our school’s VAPA program, plan new programs, work collaboratively to ensure our events have volunteers and all needed items, and share our love of the Arts with our school and community.
We want to make sure our families know all of the programs we have implemented and are continuing to expand.
  • Music Appreciation Fridays—during the lunch period, all students learn about different genres of music, the history of the genre, fascinating artists, and listen to the music from the genres.  Every month a new genre is introduced.  Feel free to come by and groove to the tunes.
  • Choral Lessons—every student in grades TK-5 attend weekly choral classes taught by Ms. Little a credential music teacher.  She not only teaches the student the lyrics to songs and accompanying movements, she also teaches various composers and artists and music theory.
  • Choral Concerts—every student performs in a minimum of two concerts throughout the year.  These formal concerts feature the students on risers, stage lighting and microphones in our Thunderbird Theater.
  • Dance Festival—Mrs. Thomas, our P.E. specialist, teaches every student dance steps and hosts our annual Dance Festival in June.  Families and the community are all invited to the outdoor event which is set to a theme or musical genre.  The students dress in clothing appropriate for their dance.
  • Bringing Artists to the School—our local artist come to school in the Spring and create works of Art with students in grades 3-5.
  • Talent Show—We host an annual Talent Show with students in grades 3-5.  This special community event is also a fundraiser for the Tahoe Valley Scholarship Fund.  (The brainchild of our Senior Custodian, Mr. Glen)  Students audition for a part and share their many talents with the school and community.
  • Musical—This year we will be performing, Disney’s Jungle Book Kids.  It will feature over 70 students in grades 1-5.  They sing, dance, and perform in three public performances in the Thunderbird Theater.  Lake Tahoe Educational Foundation and the El Dorado Community Foundation support our efforts with grant funding to make sure this event is spectacular!!!
New for 2017-2018:
  • Instrumental Music—We received grant funding from El Dorado Community Foundation to purchase recorders for grades 3-5 and Tubaga Drums for grades TK-2.  Ms. Little will be teaching all students the foundations of music and general rhythm this year.  Some grade levels will be performing this year with the new instruments too.
  • Tahoe Valley Traveling Choir—Students in grades 3-5 were able to audition for this additional afterschool choir under the direction of Ms. Little.  They will be heading off to competition this year and are working to raise the funds needed.
