Principal's Corner
Welcome Back!

Welcome to the 2026-2027 school year at Tahoe Valley! Campus has been buzzing with activity and construction this Summer and we are so, so excited to welcome you and your student back and kick off the 2026-2027 school year! It is sure to be a year of learning, growth, friendship, fun, and of course, the arts!
It is such a privilege to join this fantastic community as your child's principal and I look forward to getting to know you and your child over the coming months. I bring with me 20 years of experience as an educator including the last ten as an elementary school principal and assistant principal. I am beyond excited to join the Tahoe Valley community and learn from and alongside our students, staff and families this school year.
I believe that (especially) as parents and educators, change is the only constant. Young people remind us daily to embrace change and grow. And while so much of what makes Tahoe Valley special—our tenacity, deep community roots, mutual care, support and dedication to kids will remain constant, this will also be a year of discovery and transition—and in more ways than one! Specifically, this year we are in the midst of renovating and revitalizing our school building. It cannot be underscored enough how deeply grateful we are to the community and voters for supporting our students for years to come in modernizing our campus and creating a learning space that reflects the needs and realities of 21st century learners. And with any big construction project there will be temporary inconveniences and the need for patience and flexibility. Please check out the construction update photos below and join me the first week of school for a site tour.
I hope your summer was joyful and safe and we are excited to welcome your student and family back to the routine and predictability of school. As you think about this time of transition, please know that it is normal for kids to have a range of emotions about the start of school. Please don't hesitate to reach out to the main office or email with any questions, wonders, worries or ideas.
Here's to a wonderful start to a new school! We'll see you soon!

Phase 1 Summer Consturction Updates
We are thrilled to share that our new and modernized spaces are looking amazing! Our construction team is feeling confident that we are on track for a smooth start to the school year.
This modernization is such an incredible investment in our students and our school community. We are deeply grateful to our community for making this bond-funded project possible, as well as to the facilities teams, journeymen, project managers, and construction crews who have worked througout the summer with such care and dedication.
Here's a quick update on progress:
A-Wing: Ready for Students! Classrooms and hallways in A-Wing are looking fantastic! New flooring, fresh paint, and new furniture are arriving, with work expected to be completed this week. We can't wait for students and staff to experience these refreshed spaces. These are mostly our TK-2nd grade classrooms.
B-Wing: Construction Continues A temporary barrier wall is now in place in B-Hall. We will continue with our plan to transition classrooms to the other side of the hall and move the barrier wall during winter break. These updated classrooms will be fit with their new furniture over the Summer.
C-Wing: A New Building Taking Shape! There is so much happening in C-Wing! Much of the foundation and framing for the new building is already in place. Crews have been building the framework on our temporary playground and even moving entire wall sections by crane across the parking lot.
A Quick Playground Update: Because of ongoing construction, there will not be playground equipment available this school year. While we know our students will miss their usual playground, we are excited that this is temporary—and that two brand-new playground structures are coming next school year! For this year, students will enjoy recess on the lower blacktop near the lower field, where we have lots of fun games, activities, and ways to move, play, and connect planned for them. It may look a little different, but we’re ready to make recess just as fun, active, and joyful as ever! We appreciate everyone’s patience as we build something amazing for our students.
We are so excited about what these spaces will mean for our students—not just this year, but for many years to come. As a school community, we will work together to model and teach what it means to show gratitude, treat our spaces with respect, and take care of this amazing gift from our community.

The Tahoe Valley Parent Teacher Association is a group of parents, grandparents, teachers and community members who work together build community and belonging through community-wide events here at Tahoe Valley! Did you know that they are responsible for organizing and funding all of our major events including walk-a-thon, Harvest Fest, Santa's Breakfast and DanceFest? All of these incredible community events would not be possible without the work of our fantastic PTA. Additionally, our PTA supports staff through classroom grants and thousands of dollars in supplies every single year. Every year, PTA helps fund incredible experiences and field trips for all of our students Huge thanks to the wider community for the support and care in making this happen. This year, we would love for YOU to become part of the PTA. PTA welcomes new members during every meeting and we're already hoping to enlist new members to be part of planning committees. PTA meetings will be on campus this year at Tahoe Valley Elementary School from 6-7:30 the first Tuesday of every month. You can find out more by calling or emailing the main office at tahoevalley@ltusd.org, checking out the PTA board in the front hallway, or talking with our PTA members at an upcoming event. Illustrative Mathematics
Updated math materials in all LTUSD elementary classrooms!

Another opportunity for growth this year lies in our new math curriculum, Illustrative Mathematics! Illustrative Mathematics will be taught across all of our elementary schools and classrooms in LTUSD and represents an important step forward in teaching and learning in our district. As a parent it is important to know that Illustrative Mathematics is a problem-based approach to math. This means that in every lesson, students dive right in with a partner and attack each problem using a variety of tools and models. Linked here you can find much more information on Illustrative Mathematics and how you can support your student at home!

Additional Funding for Wellness in LTUSD
Why are we asking for health insurance information during Aeries Registration?
California’s Children and Youth Behavioral Health Initiative (CYBHI) Fee Schedule allows our school district to be reimbursed by health insurance plans (including Medi-Cal and private insurance) for some wellness and mental health support provided on campus. By completing the authorization prompt during Aeries Data Confirmation, you directly help our district secure the state funding needed to keep school counselors and wellness staff on campus at zero cost to your family and with zero impact on your personal health coverage or outside medical care. Providing this information is secure, confidential, and voluntary. Even if you choose not to provide insurance details, your child will always have access to free mental health support at school. Thank you for helping us keep our schools supported, healthy, and thriving!
